Ultrasound Vein Mapping is performed before any treatment for varicose veins and DVT.
At Palm Clinic before we proceed to treating your varicose veins or spider veins we have one of our very experienced vein sonographers perform an ultrasound map. This gives us a detailed map of both the superficial veins and the deep veins and allows us to more accurately plan the best treatment. Treatments at Palm Clinic are non surgical where possible using the latest techniques of Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA), Radio Frequency Ablation (RFA) and Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy (UGS).
If you have symptoms suggestive of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) we will also perform a deep vein ultrasound which can make the diagnosis with certainty.
An ultrasound vein map determines which veins are incompetent (not working properly). It also demonstrates the origin of the incompetent vein which enables us to plan which treatment is right for you.
Ultrasound does not use radiation and is considered safe.
Sometimes the spider veins are the result of underlying incompetent veins. These need to be checked prior to deciding on treatment.
These are ultrasound tools we use when mapping. They show flow direction in the veins.
We draw a colour coded map to show the size and localization of veins. The colours indicate which veins need treatment and the type of treatment required.
We check both deep veins and superficial veins. Varicose veins arise from incompetent superficial veins.
No. The vein sonographer will place warm ultrasound gel on your leg and run a viewing probe along the skin. It is painless!
Our highly skilled medical team treat you with care and understanding.
