As we age, lip size reduces due to a variety of factors such as changes to teeth or dentures and loss of collagen and fat in the lips. This often results in a thin lip, particularly the upper lip. Vertical lip lines will often extend onto the lip which results in a loss of definition of the lip border and creates problems with lipstick “bleeding” up the lines.
By restoring lip size with dermal fillers, correcting the vertical lines and redefining the lip border the integrity of the lip is restored and this recreates a much more youthful expression and restores vitality to the area. It is important that the oral commissures (lines from the corners of the lips to the outside of the chin) which often cause a sad expression are corrected at the same time. We do this by placing dermal filler under the folds which reduces the shadowing thus restoring a neutral expression to the mouth.
Many who are having this treatment for the first time are anxious that their lips will look too big. At Palm Clinic we generally recommend a modest enhancement to achieve a hydrated and lifted appearance without creating a ‘duck lip’.
Before and after photos of lip enhancement demonstrating balanced natural lips which are fuller but also better hydrated through the use of a combination of deep and superficially placed fillers are available at the initial consultation.
The dermal fillers are injected around the edge of the lips to define the border of the lips more clearly. Fillers can also be injected into the body of the lips to increase their size. Lip shape can be altered if desired creating, for example, more of a central pout by placing more filler in the centre of the lips. Most however just want to accentuate their own natural shape. Rest assured we talk to you at length to find out exactly what size and shape you want before we proceed with treatment and will always tend towards a more conservative rejuvenation. Bringing a photo of the lip shape you like can be useful.
Dermal fillers can enhance lip size, shape border or soften lip lines. During your initial consultation we will assess which filler is the best for you and discuss likely costs. As a guide, 1ml of filler is a good starting point for a first treatment and costs $800-$900. More volume may be required if the area surrounding the mouth needs attention or if you desire fuller lips.
At Palm Clinic we are experts in listening to your needs and respecting what you want to achieve. We will do our very best to produce the natural look you are wishing for. Treatments take around 30 minutes, can be performed using anaesthetic if required and are designed to achieve a natural looking rejuvenation.
