Unfortunately as we grow older the skin of the eyelids and surrounding structures weaken and become loose. This can lead to excess skin in our eyelids or allow the fat around the eye to bulge. These changes can make our eyes appear tired, sad or angry. People will often complain that their eyes feel heavy. The skin of the upper eyelids can hang down to the point that it affects our peripheral vision and make tasks like driving a car all the more difficult.
For all these aesthetic and practical reasons, surgery called blepharoplasty is a viable option for eyelid rejuvenation enhancing one’s appearance while maintaining a natural youthful look.
A blepharoplasty is a procedure that can be performed on either the upper or lower lids, or both in combination.
When you first visit Palm Clinic, our friendly and professional Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Mills will ask you a few questions about your medical history and your expectations around the procedure. This is done to provide us with the necessary information on previous procedures you’ve undertaken, any allergies, circulatory problems, and your alcohol, tobacco, and history of medication use.
Setting appropriate expectations for the outcome of the procedure will ensure you are happy with the result of the surgery. Despite being minimally invasive and requiring minimal time in theatre, we still want you to be fully informed about the process and the outcome.
The Upper eyelids is most commonly done under Local Anaesthetic at Palm Clinic by Dr. Mills. This is a walk in, walk out procedure which takes around one hour. Excess skin and fat around the eye is removed, and the scar is usually a fine barely prerceptible line hidden in the recess of the eyelid
Dr. Mills also offers a lower eyelid blepharoplasty for fullness or loose skin of the lower eyelid.
To ensure you heal as quickly as possible, there are a number of steps you can take following blepharoplasty.
