What are the most common areas that people have liposuction?

In my practice the most common areas I treat with liposuction or liposculpture for women are the abdomen, hips and outer thighs.  In men the most common areas are the abdomen, lovehandles and chest.  Other common areas include breast reduction, ankles and calves, knees, buttocks, arms, and the mons pubis.

Just about any area of the body with excess fat can be treated with liposuction but bear in mind that liposuction is not used for weight reduction.  The main indication for liposculpture is for areas of the body which have excess fat relative to the rest of the body – this is usually the area that shows up first when you put on weight and it is also the area that is hardest to shift when you take weight off.

With modern liposculpture techniques you do not need a general anaesthetic and you are able to return to work on day 3 after the procedure.  You will have some swelling and variable bruising for 2-3 weeks but will generally only need to wear garments for 3 days.  Most of the final result will be apparent by 6 weeks but further skin tightening will continue for upto a year.
