Are acne scars destroying your confidence?

scars on tree

Scars can be detrimental to confidence at any age. However, help is at hand in the form of laser and dermal techniques. Palm Clinic has Fraxel Laser Dual, which means we have two different Fraxel laser types, which treat different conditions, at different depths and intensities.  The Fraxel Dual includes both the Fraxel Restore and Fraxel Refine.

Fraxel Dual Laser for Acne Scarring

Many acne sufferers develop acne scarring in their teens or early twenties.

Acne scars often cause unsightly depressions in the skin on the face particularly over the cheeks. The good news is that there is now an excellent treatment for most skin types with acne scarring – called Fraxel Laser.

The Fraxel Restore 1550nm Laser is a fractional resurfacing laser that produces genuine effective improvement in acne scars, actinic keratosis, skin resurfacing, mild to moderate lines, some surgical scars and most pigmented spots and lesions.

The Fraxel Refine 1927nm Laser is very effective for intense pigmentation, freckles and actinic keratosis.

It does however pay to note, that some beauty therapists advertise a Fraxel laser, which is not the same, nor is it as effective for acne scarring as the Fraxel Dual Medical Grade laser (of which there are only two in Auckland).

Fraxel is the only fractional laser with Intelligent Optical Tracking System microchip, giving effective, safe and predictable treatment results.

Fraxel Restore will give smoother, fresher, younger looking skin and also improve tone and texture, reduce fine lines and acne or surgical scars.

Active acne or deep scarring?

For severe depressions caused by acne scars, dermal fillers (injections) can be used to elevate the scar. Occasionally the scars are tethered by fibrous strands and these can be incised to lift the acne scar.

If there is still ongoing active acne this will need to be managed before the scarring is treated. There are a variety of treatments available for active acne including antibiotics, Benoxyl lotion, retinoid creams and Roaccutane.

For accurate advice about your acne or scarring, visit a cosmetic physician or specialist Registered Nurse at Palm Clinic. With years of experience they will be able to talk to you about all the options including the Fraxel Dual medical grade laser.

Fraxel laser is used to improve the texture of skin in a multitude of areas including the face, neck, décolletage and hands, through to also reducing acne scarring.

Dermapen, e-Dermastamp & Dermaroller – the next evolution of skin needling

The issue of scars and stretch marks are a real concern for many and using dermal-needling techniques can give you another successful treatment option. We use both Dermaroller and Micro-needling devices that are backed by German medical engineering, and are the highest quality, skin-needling devices available.

How it works

Micro-needling devices use very fine micro needles made from surgical stainless steel to penetrate the skin. By pushing the tissues of the skin aside the nerve sensors signal other cells that a “possible” injury has taken place. Essentially we trick the skin into thinking it has been wounded so we can get the wound healing response which stimulates change to the skin we are treating.

Scars or stretch marks

In the case of scars or stretch marks, fibrotic tissue forms underneath the skin and acts like an anchor pulling down and distorting the surface. When we roll over the skin the needles enter the tissue and break it up, releasing old fibrotic scar tissue deep within the skin’s surface.

The treatment will repair the skin naturally, working below the surface in the dermis. This takes time as new collagen and elastin fibers are formed, softening the scars or stretch marks, generating new skin cells and enhancing blood supply and allowing the skin to remodel and naturally smooth out.

For best results

Best possible results will be achieved when combining both the roller and the micro-needles. Combining both modalities doubles the amount of perforations in the skin to simultaneously provide a greater opportunity to infuse a cocktail of skin-enhancing ingredients.

This will hydrate the skin giving a smooth and healthy glow.

This combination therapy is a non-ablative technique that does not damage the skin and the epidermis is not removed.

Furthermore, with no thermal heat, clients experience minimal downtime.

The Dermarollers and Micro-needling are used to stimulate collagen for the entire face and body to:

  • Smooth any isolated wrinkles and scar tissue, giving significant improvement in skin texture, tone, scarring, elasticity
  • Reduction of redness/rosacea
  • Stimulating up to 1,000 times more collagen
  • Puncturing and smoothing scar tissue and stretchmarks
  • Creating new fibroblasts and new capillary networks (which has resulted in slowing down the degradation of the skin).
