What is Profhilo®
Profhilo® is an injectable treatment that can be taken as a lunchtime appointment similar to Botox®. It has the effect of tightening the skin and restoring structure to the face while also hydrating and stimulating collagen production.
It can also be used to improve the texture and appearance of acne, scarring and ruddy complexions, and can be used on the face, neck, décolletage, hands and arms.
Profhilo® contains hyaluronic acid (HA), which is the same substance contained in dermal fillers. Hyaluronic acid is a moisturising acid that naturally occurs in the skin and muscles and has the ability to draw 1000 times its own weight in water into the skin. This means it’s able to hydrate skin from within to leave it feeling radiant and refreshed.
Profhilo® is injected into multiple points in the treatment area and then spreads throughout the skin drawing in water along the way. This causes the skin to plump up therefore diminishing fine lines and wrinkles, giving it the effect of an ‘injectable facelift’, and improving skin radiance and hydration.
What Profhilo® Is Used For
As we age, our skin laxity diminishes causing it to sag, line, and to sometimes take on a ruddy or crepey appearance, particularly around the neck and decolletage. Skin also slows down production of hyaluronic acid so that it appears less hydrated and radiant than it once did.
We can think of ageing skin like a cushion cover that has had the cushion filling removed from it therefore losing its plumpness, soft curves and vitality. Profhilo® works by restoring the ‘cushion’ so that skin becomes fuller, firmer and smoother. As cushioning is restored, it eliminates fine lines and smoothes out ruddy or crepey texture. The overall effect adds youthfulness to the treated areas.
In our experience, Profhilo® is most effective when used on the neck and decolletage where Botox® and dermal fillers have limited effectiveness. These are areas which can become crepey, saggy and full of fine lines.
Injecting Profhilo® into these areas creates a cushioning between the sagging skin and the muscles or bone beneath. The cushioning effect fills out the skin making it appear smoother, firmer and more youthful again.
Profhilo® can also be used on the face, hands and arms. On the face we often use it in tandem with Botox® and / or dermal fillers to provide an overall refreshed look to the face.
How Long Does Profhilo® Last
Once injected, results occur almost immediately with skin feeling smoother and looking brighter. The hyaluronic acid remains in the skin where it stimulates collagen to be produced and released into the skin slowly and gradually.
Similar to dermal fillers, Profhilo® lasts around 6 months at which point you may want a top up or maintenance treatment.
