Dull Skin Causes
As the skin ages there are a number of things that happen both from chronological ageing and from external factors such as sun exposure, smoking and environmental pollutants.
- The dermis thins, which gives the appearance of dry skin and makes it look less vibrant.
- The epidermis (outer skin layer) also thins and develops a thicker layer of dead cells on top called the stratum corneum.
- Ageing skin becomes discoloured from brown pigmentation and broken thread or facial veins.
- Ageing skin loses collagen and elastin which leads to poor elasticity and dry skin.
- The face loses support due to resorption of bone, poor facial muscle tone and loss of fat. The structures beneath the skin shrink away, leading to sagging of the skin.
- There is an increase in pore size and a duller texture to ageing skin.
- Scars such as acne scarring can leave depressed marks on the skin.
- Wrinkles and lines appear.

Light and Laser Treatment
Elos Medical IPL and coolglide vascular laser treatments can even skin texture by removing dark spots and facial veins as well as stimulating collagen formation.
ResurFX™ Laser treatments stimulate collagen production to significantly reduce acne scars, sun spots, brown pigment and thicken the dermis. This improves pore size and skin texture to achieve a more radiant skin.
Sunekos®
Sunekos® is an innovative treatment administered through micro injections. It’s a fast, effective solution for restoring skin health by replenishing hydration and improving the tone and texture of sagging, crepey skin.
Skincare Products
The thickened stratum corneum can be reduced with medical grade skincare products such as topical vitamin C (which promotes collagen growth) and vitamin A (which speeds up turnover of skin cells). These remove the dead skin cells and promote a more hydrated, healthy skin.
No matter your skin type, an SPF sunscreen will protect the skin from further UV damage, age spots and free radical damage.

Facials and Chemical Peels

Microneedling
Microneedling using Dermapen is a great dull skin remedy. Dermapen damages the skin in a controlled way to promote collagen growth and a smoother skin surface that better reflects the light.
Dermal Fillers
Loss of underlying support structures such as collagen, muscle and fat can be replaced with hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, which replace lost volume and provide better support for the skin giving it a healthier glow.
Botox®
Wrinkles and lines can be directly treated with injectables such as Botox® and dermal fillers to smooth the skin’s surface.
