Prevention of DVT (deep vein thrombosis) mainly involves using the foot pump and calf muscle pump to stimulate blood flow through the deep veins.

Blood is taken down to the feet through arteries and taken back to the lungs and heart via veins.  About 90% of the venous blood is returned via the deep veins which are situated inside the calf and thigh muscles.

The foot pump involves squeezing of blood through a complicated venous plexus in the foot and the blood is then further squeezed towards the heart via calf and thigh muscle action on the deep veins.

I am often asked if liposuction should be performed before or after a planned pregnancy.  There is no golden rule but if you have concerns about a particular area of your body prior to a planned pregnancy it is very reasonable to treat it with liposculpture beforehand.

Acne Scars and Fraxel Laser

Acne scars improve significantly with Fraxel laser which is the best treatment we have found for this distressing problem says Dr John Barrett of Palm Clinic.

Fraxel is a fractionated resurfacing laser which is capable of partially replacing the acne scars with new skin with significantly improved skin texture.  If necessary this can be combined with dermal fillers to lift the deeper depressed acne scars and at Palm Clinic we also have the Aspect range of skin products, IPL, facials, peels plus lightwave therapy and microdermabrasion for maintenance of you acne prone skin.

Close up of the back of a woman’s legs as she walks down a beach

Autumn and winter are the best seasons to get varicose veins treatment. Not only is compression hosiery (which you must wear after treatment) most tolerable in the cooler months, it can also take a few months for legs to look their best for spring and summer. At Palm Clinic, our vein care treatments are focused on comfort and confidence for your every step, and as our experts recommend, that means taking the time now to treat your legs and be ready for the warmer days to come.

Let’s explore your vein care treatment options here at Palm Clinic and why it’s best to start treatment during the cooler seasons.

Liposuction for male breast

Liposuction for Gynaecomastia. The male chest is a common area of concern for men.  Many men have a problem called gynaecomastia which prersents as early as puberty and can be related to a nubbin of breast tissue.  More commonly though the “moobs” are formed by excess fat in the chest caused by the fat cells in that area preferentially attracting fat.  So for many men the chest is the first area to put weight on and the last area for fat to go during exercise and diet.

Liposuction or liposculpture are the best ways of treating this condition.  Under a special type of local anaesthetic the fat is suctioned out of the chest leaving a contour which more closely follows the pectoral muscles resulting in a more masculine and toned appearance.

Breast Reduction by Liposuction

Put off breast reduction by the thought of scarring?  With liposuction at Palm Clinic, breast reduction can be achieved without any visible scars.

Liposuction to reduce the size of the breasts is achieved through two tiny holes under the breast and one in the armpit.  You can achieve significant cup size reduction by suctioning the excess fat from the breast.  By taking the weight off, the breast is also lifted giving a more perky look to the breast.

Breast reduction by liposuction is very well tolerated and the majority of my patients return to work within three days.  A special breast garment is worn for 4-5 days then a sports bra without an underwire for the next 6 weeks.

Any assymetry of the breast can be corrected at the same time.

On your face, as you age those youthful cheeks begin to drop, and local fat deposits shrink.  This leads to increasing laxity and depth to the lines around your mouth area and jaw line. Plus, all those happy days in the sun in your younger years will be rewarding you with increasingly uneven skin tone, poor skin texture and blotchy pigmentation patches.

For a makeover within a month, a combination of treatments can transform your face within a month:

Dermal Fillers and Botox® after which you’ll see instant results, plus an active skincare serums or skin peels, and a couple of medical grade IPL or gentle laser treatments can take years off your age.

Add to that the simplest and free treatment for added beauty is to have early nights and early dinners.  To ensure you are resting (and rejuvenating) rather than digesting – and you’ll wake up to a much fresher, more youthful face in the mirror.

“I am so glad I am now seeing a younger man – but he’s the same one I married!”

If you saw the article in the February 2012 issue of The Australian Women’s Weekly magazine you’ll know what I mean.

More and more men every year are approaching Palm Clinic to undergo simple and effective treatments that can be done within a lunch hour.  Yes, Botox® and Dermal Fillers are very popular with our male clients.  Very few men have ever looked after their skin, and most have pigmentation spots and red veins to their noses after the age of 50.  A simple medical grade IPL treatment will treat these issues so effectively that these men wonder why on earth they have left it so long to have it done.
