Controlling Excessive Sweating: What are Your Options?
Excessive, uncontrollable sweat! Who needs it? Arm pits, palms, or even your feet can be affected. Read on to learn more about this condition and how you can combat it.
What causes excessive sweating?
It’s not just the hot weather, exercise, or spicy food that trigger excessive sweating. It can also be triggered by anxiety or just occur for no specific reason. Typically, this type of excess sweating will reduce or stop overnight. Although the exact reason for excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) is often unknown, there are some medical reasons that can be the cause. These may include an increase in activity from the area of the brain that controls temperature or the nerves that control the sweat glands. There are, of course, some other reasons that will be explored during a visit with an experienced medical professional.
Alleviating excessive sweating
There are options to try and reduce this socially uncomfortable, undesirable and embarrassing condition! Frequent changes of clothing, several pairs of socks or absorbable pads for shoes, and of course a towel on hand to continuously wipe your dripping hands—all of these options are not easy or practical in the long-term. Antiperspirants, oral medications, and surgery are all options that you can discuss with a medical professional.
Botox® injections to overactive areas
Our favourite option for suitable clients at Palm Clinic is Botox® injections to the overactive area to reduce or possibly stop the excessive sweating interfering with your daily life for a blissful period of four to twelve months. Botox® works by stopping the signal to the sweat gland. It is safe and highly effective in most cases. We aim to make this procedure as comfortable as possible for you and reduce excess sweating in the area by approximately 80 to 100%. The procedure involves tiny injections of Botox® just beneath the skin to the affected area (armpits, hands, or feet). Botox® treatments start at $1430. There are possible side effects that can accompany this procedure, including bruising, a very small risk of infection, and possible weakness in the hands. These side effects are all temporary and incredibly rare. Make a consultation to assess your suitability and reduce the discomfort associated with excessive sweating today.
