Microdermabrasion, Auckland NZ

We belive microdermabrasion is an abrasive and outdated procedure that can negatively effect many skin types. We prefer to use gently exfoliating chemical peels that operate at a deep level to produce healthy skin without the risk of damage that microdermabrasion can cause.

Our microdermabrasion alternatives are delivered safely and expertly in our luxury Remuera clinic to restore the health and beauty of your skin.

Below we explain how microdermabrasion works, the negative effects it can have on your skin, and how we use chemical peels to achieve the same outcomes without the risk of skin damage.

How Microdermabrasion Works

Exfoliation is a vital technique used in appearance medicine to promote healthy skin and improve skin texture. While microdermabrasion treatment is a widely used exfoliation technique, it is often too harsh and will exacerbate a variety of skin conditions.

At Palm Clinic, our treatments have been expertly selected by our Skin Therapist and medical professionals to ensure our clients receive the best results – even on sensitive skin – which is why we no longer offer microdermabrasion.

It’s abrasive exfoliation can result in excessive redness, discomfort, microtrauma, scratching, damaged blood vessels and sensitivity to sunlight and products.

Overly vigorous microdermabrasion can also risk removing healthy skin cells, which are vital for the skin’s water retention and its ability to prevent damage caused by bacteria and oxidative stress. Excessive use of physical exfoliation can also cause long term redness and capillary dilation.

Why We Recommend Chemical Peels

At Palm Clinic, we prefer to use chemical peels for exfoliation and the removal of dead skin cells. Our peels include gentle enzymes that work on uneven skin tone and AHA peels to brighten, hydrate and refine skin texture.

In addition, we offer maximum strength TCA peels to target deeper concerns such as pigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles and acne scarring. Our clinical grade chemical peels are just as – and often more – effective for exfoliation. They target multiple concerns simultaneously, providing deep cleansing to remove dead skin cells without causing residual damage to your skin’s surface, no matter what your skin type may be.

Unlike microdermabrasion, even the most sensitive skin can benefit from chemical peels, including those prone to rosacea and those suffering from active acne.

Many microdermabrasion Auckland providers use vigorous physical exfoliation, which risks opening acne lesions and spreading bacteria. At Palm Clinic, we apply safe, effective peels that dissolve oil from within the pore and between the superficial cells to allow them to fall away. This means you accelerate cell turnover without disrupting the delicate balance of your skin.

Correct use of chemical peels will also assist in killing acne-causing bacteria with their antimicrobial properties, which act to reduce inflammation no matter your skin type.
