What is a Chemical Peel

Often the words “chemical peel” or “acid peel” will conjure up all sorts of harsh images in people’s minds. However in reality chemical peels (or cosmeceutical peels) are a non-aggressive, highly effective form of exfoliation when compared to physical or manual exfoliation, and achieve a lot more than just removal of dead skin.

The chemical peels that we use within our medi-facials range from enzymatic to lower and higher concentration Alpha and Beta Hydroxy Acid peels from leading clinical cosmeceutical brands including Aspect Dr, Cosmedix, Dermaquest, Société, PCA and Dermaceutic.

We also offer a range of high-quality cosmeceutical home-care treatments to support your skin journey and promote long-term results. These products include a high concentration of skin-loving vitamins, hyaluronic acid, peptides and other active ingredients to ensure you get the best results when you visit Palm Clinic.

Our Peels

Glycolic Acid: Glycolic acid is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) derived from sugar cane and is widely used in the cosmetic industry due to its ability to penetrate the skin, making it a particularly effective exfoliating acid. It encourages cell turnover and assists in dissolving the bonds that hold together the outermost layers of dead skin, resulting in a smoother, brighter, more even complexion.

Lactic Acid: Lactic acid is derived from milk and is a slighter milder exfoliant when compared to Glycolic. It has wonderful brightening and hydrating properties making it the perfect peel to treat thin, dehydrated or sun-damaged skin.

Mandelic Acid: Derived from bitter almond, mandelic acid is an oil soluble AHA, while most AHAs are water-soluble, making it a wonderful treatment for acne, excess oil flow and sensitive skin.

Salicylic Acid: Salicylic is an oil soluble acid, meaning it penetrates the skin more readily than its AHA counterparts. This property also allows the acid to penetrate right into oil build up in the base of the pore where it dissolves and unclogs skin debris from within. Salicylic acid is also a powerful anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory making it the perfect treatment for acne and blackhead prone skin. Because salicylic penetrates the skin more deeply, it is often used in conjunction with other acids to achieve a deeper peel and intensify results.

Kojic Acid: Derived from fungi, soy sauce and rice wine, Kojic acid is used for both its antioxidant and pigment inhibiting properties. Often added to other solutions, it acts to lighten and brighten melasma, post inflammatory pigmentation and sun damage as well as to enhance results of other exfoliating acids.

Pyruvic Acid: An exfoliating and antioxidant rich acid derived from grains and legumes, pyruvic acid has a similar but slightly gentler effect to glycolic acid. It is often added to other peels to assist in the reduction of pigmentation, as well as acne lesions and decongestion of build-up in the pores.

Fruit enzymes: A gentler alternative to acid peels, fruit enzymes have the ability to dissolve superficial dead skin. Because they don’t penetrate or dissolve oil like AHAs or BHAs, fruit enzymes are the perfect exfoliating treatment for sensitive skin, or clients wanting an immediate result with minimal redness or sensitivity prior to an event.

Our Advanced Leave On Peels

Retinol: Retinol peels are wonderful for both the treatment of acne as well as fine lines and wrinkles due to Vitamin A’s ability to encourage cell turn-over and collagen production. The peel removes layers of dead and dying skin cells to allow new, fresh cells to come to the surface resulting in a softer, smoother, more even complexion.

TCA Peels: Trichloroacetic Acid, or TCA, is a derivative of acetic acid. TCA peels come in a variety of strengths from low doses to treat pigmentation and cell turnover in a superficial peel, to much higher concentrations used to treat more significant concerns. Our Dermaceutic TCA peels are the perfect deep peel treatment for thickened and sun damaged skin. Designed to target and reduce pigmentation, lines, acne scarring and keratosis, these peels deliver smoother, brighter skin in just one session.

Medi-Facial Costs

Mild: A mild or introductory strength medi-facial costs $180 and is performed in one hour.

Medium: A medium strength medi-facial is $195 or $360 for two sessions, each of which are an hour long.

Advanced: Advanced medi-facials are quoted in person and treatment times will vary. Please note that advanced treatments will not be performed for first time clients.
